Wendi Gu

An agent with HG Literary (see other agents at this agency).

About

Wendi Gu is a literary agent based in New York City. She represents visually striking books across the young reader space, from preschool to young adult, from graphic novels to novels. In the adult space, she represents select upmarket fiction, political journalism, and graphic books. She is lucky to represent authors and illustrators who have won the Caldecott Honor, Ezra Jack Keats Award, Asian/Pacific American Library Award, the Stonewall Honor, Sydney Taylor Award, Geisel Honor, Governor General Literary Award, and Horn Book Award. Her clients’ works have been named New York Times, USA Today, Indie bestsellers, National Book Award longlisters, and Pushcart Prize winners. While the storytelling styles differ, they are all unified by a mission toward inclusivity, joy, and equity.

Wendi typically looks for picture books that straddle piercing humor and heart, lyrical middle grade, and daring, sharp YA. She loves graphic novels and memoirs that share lesser-known pieces of history and those quieter slices of life. She especially adores stories of all genres if they are from around the world and speak to multigenerational diaspora experiences.

Agent Impersonation Scams are becoming commonplace.
A legitimate agent will not contact you and request money to represent you. Never pay an agent an up-front fee. That is not how literary agent representation works. Agents earn a commission only after they've landed a publishing deal for you. Also, agents scarcely ever contact writers. If an agent that you haven't queried contacts you about representation, be suspicious. Look up the agent and check if the email address is correct for that agent/agency.
