The Gift Anthology

A project of Sweetycat Press (see other related projects).

Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (September 2022). We provide the following information as an archive.

About

We've all gotten or given a gift during the December holidays: Any holiday: local, national, international, cultural, multicultural, religion-based, that you or the person you gave it to will always cherish. In poem, prose or memoir, Sweetycat Press wants to read about those. Many of us have also received an awful gift, one that shocked us or shocked someone else because of how bad a gift it was. I want to hear about those too. Sometimes you didn't get a gift at all, although you expected one. Tell me about it. In fiction, I want stories that are about a gift. How you interpret that is up to you. Any genre (except erotica) or theme is acceptable. Humor and satire is welcomed. Be creative and imaginative with your fiction story. You can choose to rewrite a traditional holiday story, but if you do, take it as far from the original as possible. I don't want works that are entirely religiously themed (meaning, no proselytizing), although it is understood that in some cases it will be impossible to leave out something about the religion. I also don't want works that are written specifically to deride any holiday or holidays. If you have an ax to grind about a holiday, I'm not interested. I also don't want essays about the global or spiritual importance of a specific holiday, or anything political. Show me your writing skills. Tug at the readers emotions. Tickle their imaginations.
