Editor Interview: Brilliant Flash Fiction

Describe what you publish in 25 characters or less.

Stories 1,000 words max

If you publish writing, who are your favorite writers? If you publish art, who are your favorite artists?

Stephen King, Colum McCann, Richard Ford, Faulkner, Kafka, Joyce: a real mixed bag.

What sets your publication apart from others that publish similar material?

One of our contributors remarked that we are responsive and approachable. We publish emerging authors as well as professionals.

What is the best advice you can give people who are considering submitting work to your publication?

Make your writing as clean as possible. Check the spelling and grammar. Convey a powerful message without excess verbiage. Read Raymond Carver, who advised: "Get in. Get out. Don't linger. Go on."

How much do you want to know about the person submitting to you?

Cover letters are fine, especially if the author wants to explain something about their submission. If the piece is accepted, we will request an author bio of no more than 60 words.

If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?

Every piece submitted to BFF is read from start to finish.
