About

Bateau is French for boat. It's also the name of a venture into the drifts, rivers, lagoons, lakes, kelp forests, reefs, inlets, bays, and deltas of contemporary literature. In seeking to sail, paddle, row, ferry, chug, dredge, troll, bathyspherize, and otherwise icebreak along currents of new writing, it subscribes to no trend but serves to represent as wide a cross section of work as possible. Our standard is excellence. Work in our magazine succeeds because of its individual strengths and ability to move an eclectic readership. The vessel that is BATEAU is fashioned the old way; this is reflected in the craftsmanship and quality of our letterpress covers. Each issue works out of a mutual gifting and strives to be a kind of art piece.
