About The Head & The Hand Press is seeking stories of global and interplanetary contemplation for publication in the Asteroid Belt Almanac, the second installment in our almanac series. We’re calling for creative work in the form of fiction, narrative nonfiction, and visual art that explores the interplay between science and technology in society. An asteroid can range in size from a semitrailer to a small island, and we think the word is as connotatively rich as the rock formation is complex. We want our submitters to think in those terms and challenge them to imagine how advances in science and technology impact their lives and creativity on a daily basis. Is the result a satirical space opera or an argument for asteroid 1998 QE2’s planet status? Maybe it’s a dystopian story of Mark Zuckerberg’s ascension to intergalactic overlord or an essay on how digital media is providing a platform for disenfranchised voices around the globe. We are thrilled to be working on our 2nd almanac and cannot wait to read your submissions inspired by near-earth objects.
