Emma Press Insect Poems for Children Anthology

A project of The Emma Press (see other related projects).

Permanently Closed: This project is permanently closed to submissions (October 2018). We provide the following information as an archive.

About

Can you imagine a world without bees? Have you ever thought about how dung beetles are awesome recyclers? Insects pollinate, recycle and are an important food source for many animals – you could say they are our super heroes! We are looking for poems which will enthuse youngsters about the wonders of insects. You could take the readers on a journey of discovery to learn about insect anatomy, or you could inspire young readers about insect super powers. Or maybe you could write a poem that will help children identify and classify insects It’s always fascinating to learn how insects got their common names, often from their distinct characteristics or appearance. And why are we making this book? Because insects need our help. Habitat loss, pesticides, intensive farming and climate change all pose threats to these stunning creatures. By helping children explore the fascinating world of insects we can enthuse them about the natural world and hopefully ensure that insects are protected for years to come.
