However, the work speaks for itself. If the writing doesn't wow me, then no publication credit or letter will change my mind.J. S. For prose, I read the first 3-5 pages or so, and if I'm not invested by then, then it's definitely not for Midwest Noir.J. S. Others get additional line editing. If I find the core of the piece to be exactly what I'm looking for, but it's buried in mud, then I'll suggest more substantive edits to the writer and let them choose if/how they would like to proceed.J.
