Sometimes it will be a single poem from a poet; at other times we will publish several poems together to best present the voice and vision that emerges in a submission.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023What is the best advice you can give people who are considering submitting work to your publication?Submit the work you find most necessary. This could be the formally groundbreaking to the considered practice of poetry’s oldest modes. We do not seek to recreate the styles and voices found in our archives so much as to extend their conversations.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023What do submitters most often get wrong about your submissions process? We recommend that authors submit no more than once every 90 days.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023How much do you want to know about the person submitting to you?We welcome cover letters, and we make decisions based entirely on the poems themselves. We read an author’s submitted poems prior to the cover letter, and we regularly publish work by new, mid-career, and established poets. Lists of previous publications strike us as an indication that an author strives to share their work, much like the simple but daring act of submission.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?We will read the entirety of each submission before making a decision.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?Once a piece is accepted, we occasionally suggest edits for typographical reasons or for clarification. Rarely, we may suggest a line edit if we believe it will help the poem. We do not tend to accept pieces that we find in need of substantive editing, and all edits are approved by the author before publication.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023Do you nominate work you've published for any national or international awards? We nominate work for Best New Poets, Best of the Net, and Pushcart Awards.Angelo Mao, managing editor on 20 August 2023 Cookie Consent: This site uses secure first-party cookies for essential, preference-setting, and statistical purposes.
