Aside from the unique material we publish, we provide fast turnaround on submissions--usually inside one week--and we'll never leave writers hanging by not responding at all. We'll also work with writers to make sure the formatting of their work is just the way they want it.

Always read the submission guidelines thoroughly, especially with respect to the word limit. Reading several already published pieces in your genre will also help you determine whether your work is right for us.

Fiction: A mold-breaking piece that surprises us in terms of form and substance and that doesn't feel like other stuff that's out there. Humor goes a long with us as opposed to darkness. We frown on blood and guts and gratuitous profanity.
Poetry: Work that explores the language in ways that sneak up on the reader, with bold experimentation in form, structure, and sound.
Essays: A short piece that plays with the personal essay with exaggeration and absurdity, aiming to get the reader to a new level of understanding without adhering to the usual rules.
Faux Forms & Genres: Parodies, facsimiles, mock documents, and pieces with strong visual elements are welcome.

First, they fail to sample our archives to get a clear idea of the kind of work we're looking for.
Second, they fail to note our 1000-word limit for fiction and essays. We're willing to consider a little bit of spillover, but writers consistently send material from 2000 to 5000 words. These are always rejected without review.

A short third-person bio is sufficient. And you can address your email to me, since I'm the only reader.

We always read the submissions in full. Which is not to say an inclination to reject doesn't start early on. We just like to give the work a chance in case revising it becomes an option.

We edit for typos but generally publish the work as it was submitted. We've learned that sometimes the typos are intentional as well.

We nominate works for the Best of the Net, the Pushcart Prize, the Best Small Fictions Anthology, and Best Microfictions.
