Read not only the back issues of our journal, which are all available on our website, but read senryu widely in other journals such as Failed Haiku, Frogpond, Modern Haiku, and Acorn. Get to know the current standards for the form, which have moved beyond the old model of 5-7-5, and how they differ from haiku.Tia Haynes, Editor-in-chief on 01 December 2020Describe the ideal submission.The senryu would have clean breaks and juxtaposition, interesting subject matter, and depth that invites multiple readings. It can be humorous, playful, serious, tragic, or even romantic. All others will not be considered. And again, we are not looking for a 5-7-5 syllable structure. There is no need to send in publication credits as they are not taken into consideration.Tia Haynes, Editor-in-chief on 01 December 2020If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?I will re-read a submission in its entirety several times before making a decision, even if at first glance it does not seem to meet our standards or fit our current issue.
