With that said, also actually read the current issue of the magazine and the submission guidelines. I receive a number of good stories without any readily visible echo of the current issue, so they don’t really meet the submission guidelines and end up getting rejected.AJ Cunder, Editor-in-chief on 23 October 2022Describe the ideal submission.A well-crafted story with prose that borders on poetic. And of course, one that actually speaks with the current issue of the magazine, linking it by character, setting, or theme. I’d love to see more stories that follow a character’s thread, or are set in the same place as the magazine’s current story. Sometimes I can tell from the first page it just isn’t the right fit for the magazine. Other stories, I’ll make my decision after reading it all the way through.AJ Cunder, Editor-in-chief on 23 October 2022What is a day in the life of an editor like for you?As of now, it’s just me reading submissions and working with authors on stories selected for publication. I’ll read pieces as they come in and make a decision as to whether it will receive a rejection, a request for edits, or an acceptance.AJ Cunder, Editor-in-chief on 23 October 2022How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?Generally each piece will go through multiple rounds of edits which include substantive suggestions along with line editing and copy editing.
