Editor Interview: Sudden Flash

Extremely short prose.

I admire anyone who has been doing this for the long haul - some of the online zines have been at it for for ten, fifteen - even twenty years. I hope we have that kind of tenacity.

We publish a highly eclectic mix of subject matter and style, and we are very welcoming to new authors.

Proofread your piece. Get another person to proofread it for you. Be certain that what you wrote is what you meant to write.

A story that makes me wish I could write something like that.

There is no need to write a synopsis of the story.

We like a short bio that focuses on the author's personality and life. Previous credits are fun, but a long list from someone who has been published everywhere and won all the prizes is tedious.

We read the whole piece, often more than once.

I monitor email throughout the week, and do most of the reading in the evening or late night. Late night seems to be when most authors submit their work. Pieces are formatted and scheduled for publication as soon as they are accepted. Usually, there is a day each week when one of us sets up that week's cover page and double checks that everything looks right.

We will make small corrections in spelling, punctuation, and grammar. We won't make substantial changes without the author's approval.
