Editor Interview: Jabberwock Review

Oh, many many. We like The Missouri Review, The Journal, PRISM international, The Cincinnati Review, The Southern Review, Gulf Coast...journals that don't have one particular aesthetic but instead search for the best work they can find.

We respond quickly to submissions, work closely with the authors, and produce relatively short issues (approximately 100 pages) that spotlight each writer's work in a journal with high production value.

Send us your best work and don't sweat the rejections. (Like many journals, we accept less than one percent of the material we receive.) If you haven't heard from us in three months, by all means follow up. And DO submit to a couple of other journals at the same time--it's tough out there, and we are firmly behind the right of writers to simultaneously submit their work.

The ideal submission wakes us up, knocks us over, demands to be read and published. That is of course subjective.

Not much. A brief bio or publishing history is fine but not necessary.

Each piece gets multiple reads before an acceptance--typically three, plus discussion in a staff meeting.

Yes, we nominate work for the Pushcart Prize and, when appropriate, Best American Mysteries, and of course we send copies to Best American Short Stories and the O. Henry Prize Stories.
