They need to follow our guidelines. Also, they should keep in mind that, aside from our literary press, we also have another imprint (MiroLand) which features memoirs, how-to books, graphic novels, genre fiction.Michael Mirolla, Editor-In-Chief on 06 March 2017Describe the ideal submission.The ideal submission would include a brief bio, synopsis, publications history, catchy tagline, some type of marketing plan, the desire to get involved in the publicity for the book. If the material hooks us in the first few pages, we then conduct a more thorough reading to determine if the rest of the submission lives up to expectations.Michael Mirolla, Editor-In-Chief on 06 March 2017What additional evaluations, if any, does a piece go through before it is accepted?We have several readers who use an evaluation template to help us determine whether to accept a project.Michael Mirolla, Editor-In-Chief on 06 March 2017What is a day in the life of an editor like for you?It depends on what time of year it is. Our submissions process is only open from Jan. 1 through April 30. During that period we catalog the various submissions and perform a triage. During the rest of the year, evaluations are read onscreen (we only accept email submissions) and determinations are made fairly quickly). The rest of my time is spent answering emails, working with cover designers and typesetters, preparing manuscripts for production, dealing with distributors, and conducting meetings.Michael Mirolla, Editor-In-Chief on 06 March 2017How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?It all depends on the particular piece. In most cases, we expect the substantive editing to have already been done. So we do copy editing followed by proofreading.
