Q: What other current publications (or publishers) do you admire most?

A: The renaissance of small press publishing keeps us going!

Q: If you publish writing, who are your favorite writers? If you publish art, who are your favorite artists?

A: Our patron saints range from Salvador Dali and Tom Waits to poet Will Alexander and novelist Rikki Ducornet.

Q: What sets your publication apart from others that publish similar material?

A: We are community focused, seeking to honor the aesthetically adventurous in all directions.

Q: What is the best advice you can give people who are considering submitting work to your publication?

A: Read widely, read passionately, and read our guidelines.

Q: Describe the ideal submission.

A: It is attached to an emailed letter that isn't a form letter.

Q: What do submitters most often get wrong about your submissions process?

A: Simultaneously submitting.

Q: How much do you want to know about the person submitting to you?

A: We do care about cover letters, especially those that answer key questions posed in our guidelines.

Q: If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?

A: We read every piece to the end.

Q: What additional evaluations, if any, does a piece go through before it is accepted?

Q: What is a day in the life of an editor like for you?

A: This is too difficult to describe, sorry!

Q: How important do you feel it is for publishers to embrace modern technologies?

A: Whatever publishers do, we look for them to do it with focus, drive, and celebration.

Q: How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?

A: We do substantive editing, including line editing, and have a rigorous copy editing and proofreading process as well for works accepted; the author does get to approve (and collaborate on) the edits.
