The work is what matters. We require SHORT author bios. No longer than 75 words, and a long list of previous publications cannot accommodate that.Caryn Coyle, Nonfiction Editor on 21 March 2026If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?I try to read every work to the end to think about its worth. Some creative nonfiction pieces are wonderful and I accept them immediately. But, sometimes, I cannot read beyond the first few paragraphs and the work is rejected.Caryn Coyle, Nonfiction Editor on 21 March 2026What additional evaluations, if any, does a piece go through before it is accepted?Many times, the work needs editing. If the author and I can agree on the final draft, it is published. I will not offer to edit a piece if I am not interested in publishing it, and will not waste a writer's time by offering it. As a published author, myself, I can think of two journals that went back and forth with me more than four or five times, as I reworked my submission by their request, and they never accepted it. I try never to do that.Caryn Coyle, Nonfiction Editor on 21 March 2026How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?I will edit for grammar and cliches, possibly structure if the order in which the work is written could stand better clarity. I may delete sentences or phrases that are poorly written and not pertinent to the work. The Pushcart Prize.Caryn Coyle, Nonfiction Editor on 21 March 2026How is your project funded?No. The only income we receive is the sale of our hard copy anthology each year. We spend a couple of hundred dollars to register and publish our website, and sometimes the sale of our anthologies does not cover all of it. Our editor-in-chief, Dan Cuddy, would have known more. He died on August 16, 2025.
