If you make a mistake in submissions, we'll try to work with you to smooth it out.B. We've had winners that have never been published before as well as veterans. I don't share cover letters with the judges. Basically, I ignore them because we didn't ask for them. Make sense?B. Lynn Goodwin, Managing Editor/Owner on 26 July 2021If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?As the preliminary reader, I read every piece and give feedback when it's requested. We have a tiered fee system and charge extra for individualized feedback. I tell you what I like and what, if anything, trips me up. We get returning contestants because of the feedback.B. Lynn Goodwin, Managing Editor/Owner on 26 July 2021What additional evaluations, if any, does a piece go through before it is accepted?I share the top 10-15% with judges who have been previous winners. They also give feedback and tell me their choices for winners.B. Lynn Goodwin, Managing Editor/Owner on 26 July 2021What is a day in the life of an editor like for you?I usually don't read more than 2 submissions in a row--especially if I am giving feedback. That way I come to each piece fresh. I keep track of which pieces are worthy of consideration. Choosing the finalists is more complex.B. Lynn Goodwin, Managing Editor/Owner on 26 July 2021How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?Very little. I'll correct grammatical errors with the author's permission. Basically our top pieces are publishable as is.
