We enjoy a variety of writing and publications, but we're not particularly focused on the trends literary magazines take. However, such magazines as American Poetry Review, Granta, and Glimmer Train, which have presented quality work for many years, are magazines we admire.

Always a tough question, as there are so many, and I fall in love with the writings all over again when I reread some authors after many years. Most recently just in poetry, I've been re-reading W.S. Merwin. Gerald Stern, and Mary Oliver and Louise Gluck, and reading Roger Reeves. Always handy, I keep William Carlos Williams, Pablo Neruda, William Stafford, Hafiz. ...OK I'll stop now.

We tend to offer more personalized feedback when we can manage it. We sometimes offer specific suggestions to help contributors revise material in order to uncover what we see as their potential.

Of course, send us your best writing. Beyond that, we want lively, engaging, original work that represents the best of you. Though we understand that there is a place for experimental work, we look for accessible writing that is nonetheless nuanced as it explores the human condition. Though we have a leaning toward Boomer writing, we do not publish nostalgia pieces and are always on the lookout for fresh writing from anyone of any age.

The submission process begins with the writer. We want to see work that demonstrates a professional level of writing and editing, with attention to detail. Beyond that, some writers submit only one page of poetry or, on the other extreme, send numerous submissions before hearing back about the first submission.

Just a line or two to identify themselves (where the writer is from, profession if they want, etc.), and if we publish their work, we will definitely want a bio with publication credits.

If there's potential, we read and discuss the work. If we decide it's a real possibility for us, then one of us replies with suggestions for revisions if that's called for or simply sends an acceptance.

Depends on the piece. When we really like the piece, but we feel that part of it needs some significant changes, we are happy to offer the input and work with the writer.

We will be nominating this year's best pieces for the Pushcart Prize.
