Creative resistance

Our favorite writers and artists are those whose works are both wonderfully creative and politically progressive.

We are rather generous editors, often working with less seasoned writers to revise submissions. And, we actively pursue diverse and neophyte writers, because one of our goals is to raise a multitude of voices in resistance to the Trump regime.

Read our submissions page: We publish works of resistance, nothing else, albeit the forms resistance takes are numerous in terms of genre, style, topic, etc.

The ideal submission follows our guidelines explicitly and makes us laugh, cry, fume, roar, muse, rethink, etc.

The most common errors reflect having failed to read the submissions guidelines, in particular, submitting work that cannot in any way be construed as political resistance.

We do not request cover letters, and the only place previous publications need to appear is in a writer or artist's bio. We care about the work submitted, not past accomplishments, although we're sure submitters' parents must be proud.

If the writing is competent, we read the entire piece, because the element of resistance might not otherwise be recognizable.

Editors' emotional responses to submissions are sometimes considered. We'll work with a writer if a piece moves us, but is not yet ready for publication.

We conduct a full range of editing, from proofreading to major revisions--if the work needs it and we love it. Any substantive editing is approved by the author.
