We do not focus on displaying personal favourites of any kind; our magazine focuses on our contributors and the creations they want to show to the world.

Suburban Witchcraft is what we describe as 'state of the soul', a moment on the intersection of our real world, your dreams and feelings, moments that feel surreal, improbable, painstakingly beautiful or painful when one does not expect them to be, and most of all it is Creativity as a form of existing when the world feels very scary and liminal. Our magazine's name often makes contributors think it is about practical and religious witchcraft, and it can be - but the emphasis is on expression and literary craftsmanship - there is no need for contributors to try and fit a non-existent theme.
Please feel free to TALK about your work - we welcome cover letters that include lore about your submission.
We welcome and celebrate self-published creators and we believe a creative work should never be deemed as 'old' or forgotten - do not shy away from submitting work from your self-published collections.
No need to be excessively formal when addressing the editor; all we ask is Be Kind.

Ideal submission follows our submission guidelines, has the submitted material as an Attachment and includes a short biography in the body of the email.

That our magazine's theme is exclusively about practical witchcraft and that their submission that does not center around this theme will not be a good fit; and the other way around: choosing to submit material centering around practical witchcraft and crafting it that way to increase their chances of acceptance for publication.
That we accept book reviews by our contributors, and not review books ourselves.

We want to know as much as the submitter feels comfortable disclosing. We do like to put emphasis on our submitters when publishing their work and will welcome and encourage submitters sharing more about their inspiration, their work and themselves, as well as their social media presence. We, likewise, respect our submitters desires regarding their identities, appearance of their persona in our publication and desires for anonymity.
We love cover letters where the submitters talk about their work and inspiration behind it.
We welcome previous publication credits, because we like our submitters proud of creating, showing their creations and talking about them.

We read all of the submission from beginning to end.
We don't believe in 'isn't right' because the focus of our publication is to create the space for the submitter's piece, not fit it into a pre-existing box.
The pieces we reject are pieces that do not follow our submission guidelines, encompassing our list of material we do not want to publish, submissions which are not sent as an Attachment but in the body of the email instead, or when the submitter ceases communication.

Suggested edits, if any are needed.
We, likewise, check with the submitters if our issue's release date aligns with their publishing time goals.

As a passion project, most of Suburban Witchcraft Magazine is crafted on the weekends. We read submissions on a rolling-basis and our magazine is un-themed.
The submission reading process is consistently opening our inbox and being immersed inside glimpses of the literary, the photographic and the art.
Our reading process most often includes a synergy of inspiration where the editor most often paints, writes and photographs which simultaneously reflects on the upcoming issue's design.
Reading submissions feels very enlightening, enriching, vulnerable and delicate.

We strive to provide and adhere to author's desires when offering edits. Edits beyond formatting and grammar are rarely suggested. Authors are always consulted , informed about and shown all the edits as suggestions - and we welcome their input.
It is important to us to showcase our submitter's creations exactly as they want to, in their voice.
We likewise send digital proof copies of the upcoming issue 2 weeks before it is due to go live and work with creators then on any desirable or suggested edits, both graphic design and content-wise. We feel like making this our process helps our contributors, because they get to see their original work on a page, instead of a hypothetical draft.
