We also like to think we take more time than most creating a page our contributors like to revisit again and again because we accept bio's of any length. + if we accept your work, please include as many links in that bio as you want/need in there? Little extra work, a lot of happy contributors!Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026What is the best advice you can give people who are considering submitting work to your publication?Send us your worst thoughts distilled into poetry or art. Send us the poems that you feel might get dismissed elsewhere because of choice of language and/or subject matter. Send something that holds a risk. Please.Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026Describe the ideal submission.See question 5!Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026What do submitters most often get wrong about your submissions process? We do not care if you've published in 40 magazines already? New Yorker, yeah, color is impressed! Doesn't mean we'll publish you. But impressed :) We make up our mind about a submission quite fast, but we do read and consider each one carefully.Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026How much do you want to know about the person submitting to you?Just a bit is enough. Might want more after reading the submissions in question, but be assured we'll ask!Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?We read the whole submission. With me as founder having the last say.Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026What is a day in the life of an editor like for you?I'll be looking online and through my own personal contacts about Dutch poetry/lyrics that have been translated in English or that I would like to see translated and try to secure those for publication.I'll be on LinkedIn (only social media I'm on) looking for artists that I would like to publish a work of.I'll be here, on duosuma/duotrope, going through all of the submissions coming our way. Thanks for that by the way! If it weren't for Duosuma/duotrope we wouldn't have been able to thrive as we have done so far.I'll be discussing and go over submissions with co-editor Onno.I'll be tinkering at the magazine for as long as I can before the missus gets angry.Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication? No. No editing. Send us your best version. That is your responsibility. If you want anything added/changed before the issue goes live, do let us know though! Happy to oblige, but that has to come from you. We sometimes send the page to be to a contributor before the issue he/she/they are in goes live, and maybe we should be doing that more, but if we accept you we will already be asking for an as elaborate of a bio as possible, so there's no shortage of contact moments during which to get in contact with us about your contribution.Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026Do you nominate work you've published for any national or international awards?Yep! Just nominated 4 poets for the 'Best of the Net' 2027 awardsBenne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026How is your project funded? Not. It's an expensive, time consuming hobby. In Holland you need to be a company to be able to receive tips to boot... Really want to pay us money? Cool! You can do THAT by entering our biannual poetry prize. Cheers for that :)Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026How do you promote your project and published authors/artists?Linkedin. There's no new letter, subscription etc etc. Can't be bothered to be honest? Plus that sound. like a lot of work. Energy we'd rather use to make, and equally as important, maintain this online only, lo-fi little beast of us. We do ask for our contributors to help us on the socials. They do. Proud of the 8000 individual visitors so far!Benne van der Velde, Founder, editor on 01 September 2026 Cookie Consent: This site uses secure first-party cookies for essential, preference-setting, and statistical purposes.
