Q: What sets your publication apart from others that publish similar material?
A: We publish established writers alongside new and up-and-coming talent. Our editors read every submission themselves.
Q: What is the best advice you can give people who are considering submitting work to your publication?
A: Well, we hope you'll read LEON before submitting. And please send us the work that you love.
Q: Describe the ideal submission.
A: We enjoy work that approaches its subject from a surprising angle. If you're a formal poet, come on down. Non-traditional poetry and prose also engage us.
Q: What do submitters most often get wrong about your submissions process?
A: Writers sometimes exceed our recommended word count.
Q: How much do you want to know about the person submitting to you?
A: The enclosed bio should be sufficient.
Q: If you publish writing, how much of a piece do you read before making the decision to reject it?
A: We read every piece to the end.
Q: What additional evaluations, if any, does a piece go through before it is accepted?
A: We read every submission separately then get together and make the call. Our judgements are based solely on the quality of the work.
Q: What is a day in the life of an editor like for you?
A: We read all the submissions before putting together an issue. If your piece is accepted, our editors have agreed about the merits of the work and are excited to publish it.
Q: How much do you edit an accepted piece prior to publication?
A: Generally speaking, we don't.
Q: Do you nominate work you've published for any national or international awards?
A: Yes! We nominate for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net.
